Elmore featured on BBC Panorama - Grooming Gangs: Why Were We Ignored
Yesterday (Monday 21st September), our CEO, Andrew, featured in BBC Panorama's Grooming Gangs: Why Were We Ignored, a documentary examining the lasting impact of child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Oxford and the experiences of survivors.
At Elmore, we know that the effects of childhood sexual exploitation can continue long into adulthood. Many survivors face complex challenges affecting their mental wellbeing, relationships, confidence, housing, finances, and sense of safety.
Our New Beginnings service was established in 2016 following Operation Bullfinch, which uncovered hundreds of people who had potentially experienced CSE in Oxfordshire between 1999 and 2014.
The service provides trauma-informed, person-centred support to help survivors move forward with their lives. This can include:
• Improving mental wellbeing and supporting recovery
• Building confidence and self-esteem
• Support with housing, benefits, money worries and debt
• Reducing isolation and strengthening community connections
• Advocacy to help ensure survivors' voices are heard
• Access to employment, education, volunteering and training opportunities
• Developing practical life skills
• Support when engaging with the police and criminal justice system
